I am converting a kitchen rolling cart into a coop for 4 chickens. It has 2 shelves and I was thinking of making the lower one the roosting bars, and the upper shelf the laying boxes, there would be ramps to each level, is that okay to do or do they like the roosting and laying areas close and on the same plane? This is my first venture into urban backyard chicken keeping so I am clueless! LOL. I plan on enclosing the indoor coop with sturdy wire for a run but they will also have outdoor runs that are bigger.

Thank you for your knowledge, I need it!!!

Roost high, nesting low. Their gonna lay where they want to anyhow. Must be a big kitchen cart
