One other question. How high to put roosting bars and when will the chicks start to use them? Thanks!

How old are you chicks and what breed?

12 Plymouth White Rocks, 12 Buff Orpingtons - 7 weeks old on Monday.

When mine were about 7 w/o they roosted on a bar about 18" but they eventually worked their way up to the highest point in the coop which is about 5 foot.

Our babies started using a dowel rod at around 1.5 weeks. By 4 weeks they had graduated up to a 1x2 and by 6 weeks they were outside in their coop with 2x3 roosts.
