roosting board

Hi,

Is a 3 1/2 inch board too wide for our hens to roost on at night? We thought this would be good especially in the winter so they could sit on their feet to keep them warm, but wanted to make sure.

That seems to be the standard reason for having a wide roosting board!

Right. Lots of folks here use 2x4's laid flat, which makes a three and a half inch roost. It's sort of the most often recommended size. Especially in cold climates ... so the chickens can settle down on their toes and get them snuggled into the feathers and stay warm.
