hello all...this is my first batch of chicks...i think they are about 10 days old...when do they start roosting for real...right now they kind of sit on top of the feeder (of course they fall off...but they try...lol)thnx for the info

Gosh...I can't even remember now. I know I had little sticks and such for them to "practice" roosting on when they were tiny, probably a week or two. But I don't recall them actually getting up on the roosts in the coop until they were probably at least 6 weeks old. Maybe mine were a bit slow...lol

Mine have sat on a stick at 1 week, it has helped rehab one of my BR who's feet were week. My girls are now almost 2 weeks and try to fly:)

Mine are about 4 weeks old and they love to roost now. We built a mini ladder type roost and they love practicing flapping their wings.
Last night one of them fell asleep up there and her head was hanging down. It looked so strange, but she was fine.
It is so cute to watch them explore & learn.
I say, go for it. Try to find something for them to roost on and see how they go.
