Hi, I have two questions abought my coop. One is Should i put somethong like a small log on stands so my legghorns can start roosting. the coop is an old rabbits cage so they sleep in a wood box in there. Next question, i used to have a dog that lived in the back yard in a fenced in area. me and my dad tore down the two sides and front after my dog died but left the back. there is a pretty good sized wood house that is down there that can be used for the chickens to sleep in, for the hens to lay there eggs stuff like that. one problem is there used to be (might still be) a good sized yellow rat snake living under the roof which was not nailed down and a couple of animals living under the thing but both problems are easily solved Please write back and give me some advice.

chickens def need a roost...
i don't know how old they are but when they start laying, they won't do it in the boxes because that's where they sleep.
The old dog house sounds like a nice addition to what you already have, BUT get rid of that snake! oftherwise, you're giving him a never ending food supply.
take the roof off and reconfigure it maybe? then he won't have a place to come back to.
