I just thought I'd let the one's interested in getting chicks to roost what I did and how long it took.
ed My 6 Welsummers were all nesting in a laying box. I let them stay there till I figured they were fully feathered and the cold nights ended. I started putting them on the roost by hand 7 days ago. I waited till it was so dark they had no choice but to sit there. Then I put them on the roost with more light out. At first they jumped back down but I put um back and they stayed. Then I found 2 that really fussed and 4 that are really friendly little things. I put the four on the roost and they stayed and I left to other two on the floor. Yep, the 2 didn't like it there so they flew up to be with the crowd. Last night after 7 days they went roosted on their own. We'll see how it goes tonight. I might have it licked. But it took me 7 days of "training" to make it happen.
Y'all with youngun's, I hope you make it work. Oh, and the little boy is the biggest fusser.
