roosts for silkies

I am getting ready to construct my coop/run this weekend. My husband still isnt thrilled about the chickens. He is 100% city boy and we live in a sub-division where having chickens as pets is unheard of! But I dont care too much about keeping up with the "jones'" and I want chickens darn it!! so I want to have everything planned out so this will be as easy as possible for him to build. So I guess my question is should I still put roosts in the coop even if silkies dont use them?

Our Silkie roosts on the rope in the brooder, but I think it's only because his brooder mate Roxie (d'Uccle) does it. It will be interesting to see if he continues to roost once he is moved to the coop. Maybe put something removable in, and possibly closer to the ground... that way, if they don't use it, you can just take it out.

yeah thats actually what I was just sitting here thinking! It would be no big deal to take it out if need be! I also have a question about the run... how tall should I make it? should I make it so I can walk in there?

My silkies love to roost. Just put it about 12-18" high.

I'm making my big coop run tall enough for me to get into... but I'm barely over 5'

The batam runs I'm going to keep closer to the ground and just put a door where I can reach in with the rake and rake it out

Mine sleep in a pile of shavings.

I built a roost but they never used it so I took it out.
