Roosts ouside for chickens

I am a newbie to raising backyard chicken and I thank all for this site. We have an enclosed area with a coop for are 7 week old Rhode Island reds. Do I need roosts or anything in there area to roost on?

Welcome to BYC!

Yes your birds will need a roost inside thier coop, to sleep on at night.
As far as in their run, a roost is not needed.

Hi and from Ohio. So glad you joined. Just don't put it up to high to start. You can move it higher as they age.

You don't need a roost in the run, but your birds may enjoy one

My girls like having different level places to hang out during the day. Sometimes they dig down into the dirt, sometimes in the dirt bottom of the coop. They have big tree branch i set up like tree, as well as boards and cement blocks. They always sleep on the roost in their coop. They are very interested when I move things around and have to investigate. They are curious and can get bored, so those little things can help keep them entertained and not fighting.
