Rosetta and barred Rosetta

I keep seeing the term barred Rosetta pop up. I did a search and did see it mentioned but not the answers I’m looking for. Is barred Rosetta actually different from “normal” Rosetta? Or is it just a pattern you might get in a Rosetta? Either way should it be considered in a breeding program, ei will it effect breeding projects or should it be considered as you would any other Rosetta on a genetic level? Also I’d love to see a side by side of a barred vs a normal Rosetta if anyone has pics.

It’s my understanding that it is just a pattern difference, and different lines will have different variation based on their original stock and generations removed from original. As far as a breeding program, I feel like color variety in coturnix is really taking off, and if that’s what you like and you wanna specialize a breeding program around it, that’s great and you should. I think if you order rosettas from somewhere, you will often get a wide variation among them.

Thanks, I was thinking it was probably a pattern within that color. Range colors remind me of brindle in dogs, there’s light and dark, blue, and red and variations within the “striping” outside of actual colors.

Agreed. The barred ones look like turkeys to me, I have one called Gobbles haha.

Also idk if anyone else finds it this way, but it seems my males tend to show more prominence of vertical lacing, and their sisters lean toward horizontal turkey looking patterns. But they don’t really fully distinguish their patterns until they’re older anyway, so maybe it’s confirmation bias and I start seeing patterns after they crow.
