It also depends on the breeds. Some meat chickens are ready early. If you have heritage breeds, they take longer to fill out. There's nothing wrong with culling early, but you won't have as much meat.
ok sorry i guess i didn't state my question correctly. I keep my flock and my oldest is now going onto the 2nd winter. how long do hens lay eggs and do you keep them until they stop laying or do you rotate your flock. what about roosters if you have a good rooster do you keep him year after year or do you rotate your roosters and get a younger one.
