Just wondering if anyone had a picture of a "rotten egg"....We had a broody hen setting and one hatched -- adorable btw
smile.png
!!-- but she's still setting on one more egg -- when I hold it to the light (it's a brown egg...) it's hard to tell if the "dark" I'm seeing is development OR if it's a time bomb waiting to blow
smile.png
-- I don't want to move it out prematurely, but I don't want to NOT pull it if it's gonna blow

!! Any help would be greatly appreciated

how long has she been sitting on the other egg since the 1st one hatched? My broody was on the nest for another 1 1/2 days after the 1st one was born and had 4 all together. I candled most of the eggs that were left when she got off the nest to see (she had eggs that werent hers and I knew one was only in there a few days). It was obvious that some of them would incubate and likely hatch, but I have had bad experience with eggs that hatch late and didn't go there with these eggs.

Would it smell if it's rotten?? I don't smell anything at all with it -- it isn't my broody's egg, and it may have been snuck in a day or so after the original eggs...soooooo I'm wondering....I just don't want to pull it if it's going to make it because I have one little peep who needs a buddy

I've looked everywhere to even buy a few local here, but no luck

-- going to candle again this evening and see what I can see!! Does anyone have a good picture of a bad egg..this one isn't clear -- it's dark-- but I'm not seeing movement -- or veins -- BUT it's a darker egg--don't know what I'm looking for with a darker one

how is it going today? If it was rotten, it would smell, but just cause it didn't hatch doesn't mean it's rotten. I have candled some that were rotten and the eggs appear spotted from bacterial growth (spotted on the inside). Hard to tell what is going on in an egg that is almost fully developed (atleast for me), seemed like just a black mass in the egg. There was a post on here about candling, I will see if I can find it

still the same...no smell no nothing -- which I guess no news is good news??

..just candled this evening and the whole egg is totally black..not spotty or anything...and I can see an air pocket (clear) in the big end of the egg...my hope is that it's just a few days behind our first little hatchling--got my fingers crossed

!! Would still like to see pictures of candled eggs so that I can compare

! thanks for checking in! I'll post again if/when something happens/changes --

I didn't find the candle pics I was thinking of, I think it may have been on another website, sorry. Is mama still incubating the egg? or did u take it in to incubate? good luck!

Mom's still on the egg...and when she isn't, I've got another broody that take's her half hour eating/drinking shift over for her
smile.png
-- she sits clucking in the box next door until the setting hen gets up and then she scoots right over and gets herself all cozy...kind of funny really
smile.png
-- I'm just going to let it go for awhile -- who knows, maybe that egg was one that got placed on the sly and we didn't have the same start time

! I'm really hoping it hatches soon though, our little one is lonely

! Nothing going on yet...I'm anxious to get home from work this afternoon to see what's going on
