rough looking chick!

I have 11 bies that will be a month old in a few days. my question is , should they be loosing feathers on their belly and under the wing? im not sure if they are pecking each other enough to pull them out, but one of them has haor of its face! they are br and leghorn (ideal) whatever you want to call them. i raised all of my chickens from babies but only a few at a time , never 11 !

They might be going through their "ugly stage" .When they first get their new feathers.

I hope so! I split them up into two cages for a bit! I have to make a pin they can get out of! I wish I could tell if they are hens or roosters , but being that every breed is dofferent its hard to tell!

oh and how long do you think it will take a hen to start sitting on her eggs after being with a rooster? it took my mama hen a year. I hope my BO ladies are sooner!

It's normal. I was concerned too, with the very first batch. Not all of them did this though, just the less fluffy chicks.

oh and how do you bathe a chicken? my babies are staying so dirty! I dont like it! they dont get to get in the dirt because my yard is a wet mess!

I use dish soap and warm water. I bathe in my kitchen sink. When finished I blow dry gentle on low heat.

Dawn dish soap works the best.

That's a good idea. When my chickens got dirty i washed them in the bathtub.Worked great,but was a hassle to clean.One of my roos loved the rain so instead of giving him a bath i gave him a shower, just turned it on and closed the curtain while rubbing soap on his back

In the summer though i find its easiest to just buy a baby pool and wash them in that.

quick question! my babies are a month old, some of their tail feathers are very distinguished others seem to not be growing. I have noticed combs bigger than some. is it safe to say the ones with the bigger combs are roos? I just want to fiure it out! I cant put pics.up on her I use my phone. they are barred rockx
