Just when I thought I would get at least one more night's sleep before starting this over I have a pip. I just want some sleep. Hopefully it will hatch by bed time and the others won't pip until late tonight or tomorrow. Yes I just said that. lol Don't get me wrong still excited but I need to sleep.

Oh man, you're like a nitrous oxide powered turbo-hatcher! Every time I look in this section, your next round of eggs is hatching. Sounds like you're doing great. How many eggs are in this bunch then? Are all your other chicks doing fine? I read about the one that didn't make it in the last bunch. Sounds like he might have had some kind of problem that prevented him from hatching properly. Poor little guy...

I just went into lock down

Lol Power hatcher maybe... where can I get the nitrous. Only 4 in this bunch and is the end of this silliness I created by accident. Here's the breakdown:

I planned on setting 42 egg (filling my turner). After setting 18 eggs I realized I needed to hold eggs and set all together. (I had collected and put in the bator as they were laid.) First day I set 7 all of which hatched. Next day I set seven 6 of which went in the hatcher and 5 of which hatched. Now I am on the last 4. Hoping they all make it. Don't think I can take another loss. Then I started holding the eggs and set 14 on 3/9. I candled those yesterday and only 2 weren't doing anything. So 12 more into the hatcher on 27th. And we collected and set 24 more which will hatch April 11th.

Was going to swap my roosters but decided this is enough. I am too worn out for any more. Lol Don't think I have room for anymore. We plan of giving some to friends and family and then keeping the rest. We cull off the roosters and keep the hens for eggs. This was about sustainable food when we started it and I am trying to maintain that goal. We are never out of eggs. We've had 3-5 eggs since our girls started hatching. And we ate 5 roosters. but we started this with 12 day old straight run chicks. Now we have 7 chickens and 12 chicks. In one year. Been such a wonderful learning experience.

Good luck with your hatch! I have been in lock down 3 times in one week. I am amazed I can still read and type.

We have Buff orpingtons and an easter egger rooster. These chicks are a mix between them. We also have a buff rooster but he has his own pen. The 2 roosters don't get along. our plan was to swap for diversity.

A second egg is pipped. Too scared to even concentrate. After yesterday's fatality I am a nervous wreck.

So far really good. No one seems week. On the contrary... They are like attack chickens. lol You can't get near the feeder to add more food. They have all doubled in size already and a few have wing feathers. The temp is perfect for them but I think might be too cold. If I raise it they scatter to the dark places.
