Round or square perches?

Anyone have recommendations for perches, I was told to just nail 2x4s across the interior if the coop for roosting.

I would choose round. It's easier on their feet.

I have had both at the same time. All chickens choose the 2x4 over the round. (=

I was told 2x4's for colder climates ( 4" side flat ) so they roost covering their feet preventing frostbite ?!?
