Roundup...safe?

We live on about 3 acres (which adjoins 20+ my FIL owns) so I alternate letting my different flocks of chickens free-range almost daily.

There is an area (not far from the coops) that I cleaned out last year of wild cherry, poison ivy, some local wild shrub, etc. This spring some of it has re-sprouted and I need to kill it before it gets going again. Can I safely spray it with roundup? I haven't seen my chickens eating any of these plants, but they do wander thru this area pretty frequently

no dont use round up its really a bad poison.

pour boiling water on them and they will die. easy and no harmful chemicals.

ETA or a torch I was thinking of burning out my dandilions after spending all day Sunday pulling the ones in the farm area.

If the area gets sunshine buy a big bottle of vinegar and spray the plants. Vinegar & sunshine will crispy them with no harm to the chickers.

No on the round up. You could also try using vinegar. Make sure that when you are getting rid of the weeds you don't cut them down first...you want as much surface area on the leaf as possible.

I am in the process of trying a new recipe I found in my local newspaper

1 gallon of vinegar
2 cups of table salt
8 drops of liquid dish soap

Mix and spray directly on foliage.

Vinegar does not have any residual effect in the soil, but that much salt may well have. You may have a hard time getting something to grow there until it's rained a few times.

As a contact herbicide pure vinegar straight out of the bottle can work pretty well on some types of weeds. It won't necessarily kill the roots and it works best on fresh, new growth but for some weed types it can burn them down pretty well. Especially in strong sunlight.

Weeds that propagate through underground runners, rhizomes, etc. it's not likely to do much for.
