Roxy, our BR layed her first egg today

She is about 7 months old. Has a super red comb and waddle, so I knew we were close. Today she made herself a nice little spot in the nest box, and left me a lovely, perfect little 1st egg. And she is smart too, because the 2 others we have laying right now, don't use the nest boxes, they use the corner of the coop. Maybe they will learn from her

LOVE those first eggs! My RIR, Trudy, is almost 35 weeks old (!!!) and just layed her first egg last Saturday. It was long and skinny, and she bled a little one it (ouch!) but it was the most glorious thing I've seen in a LONG time! She has since layed an egg every other day...

ha! She did teach the others. Our Black Jersey laid an egg in the nest box Roxy used yesterday.

Roxy's 1st egg had a little blood too. Today's was cute, speckled with brown dots.
