Rubbermaid shed as coop???

I am in the process of building my coop, and I went to Home Depot for supplies and found this... http://www.rubbermaid.com/Category/...utdoor&SubcatId=BigMaxFamily&Prod_ID=RP091372

On clearance for $325!!!! So I'm trying to figure out if I should just buy it and convert it into a coop, and build a run. I was thinking of cutting a chicken door into the back, and using the big doors for cleaning, etc. ideas?

It's doable but you'd also have to cut vent holes in it for air exchange. Also you'd need a board along front of double doors to keep the liter in when you opened it.

I thought of trying this once but it seemed like to much to install nest boxes, roosts, vent, pop door, etc

I am not a big fan of plastic. it seems like it would work. I purchased a metal shed 10x12 through home depot to house my water system it was difficult to construct but around the same price. you might not have tje time but scavenging pallets to make a coop is free.

It would be a snap to clean and would not harbour lice and vermin like wooden counterparts. Shelving and nest boxes would maybe best if build free standing and anchored to the floor with a few screws for easy removal.. You would have no need to paint and have a lock on rot and mold. It would definitely have advantages over a wooden structure.

I like the sky lights in the roof panels for extra lighting. I like the fact that the doors are hinged not sliding that is a bonus (found that out the hard way during winter in Canada). I think the advantage would out weigh the disadvantages. You could not build that size structure with new material from Home Depot out of wood and have all of it's features. I know if I had a plastic shed at my disposal I would give it a try. You would have to think out of the box for some situations but I think with a bit a creativity it will make a excellent coop.

If you do try this venture I will guarantee you one thing regardless of the result it will not be the worst mistake of your life.
This is my 4x8 salvaged metal shed I have housed 24 birds in this coop with no issues.
