rufus: how do I know if it's seed corn?

The kernels are very large and a sort of truncated "candy corn" shape. Is this seed corn?

Shall I do some sleuthing around the "neighborhood" (about 5 miles of road)? I guess that's one way to meet people!

The treated seed corn we get to plant is pinkish colored.

All seed can be seed corn. Seed corn that is sold by companies will have seed treatment on it that can be a variety of colors.

Even if it is untreated seed corn, it can be fed, burnt, etc just like field corn.

Yes, treated seed corn is usully dyed a pinkish color. However, if it has been laying out for a while, it may have lost it color. Look at the stuff from the bottom of the pile.

The real problem arises when the bin is reused for something else, as happened in China recently with melamine. The result was bad dog food, which of course they sold it in the US.

The corn appeared fresh, like it'd just fallen off the truck. It had been in the rain, so can't probably go by the color. I'll check around . . . I have a friendly disposition.

Was where you found the pile of corn by a field of harvested corn? If it was they probably ran it over when they were unloading the grain from combine to truck.
