i'm just glad i posted this NOW, we've still got some 'clearing' to do, just to get to where this is all going to happen. and so far, it's looking like it will be october before we lay down our first board.

Sorry, I did not read every entry of this thread so am not sure if this was already addressed (besides one member's post that his chickens do not perch higher than 2 feet or so). But in regards to height alone, my chickens certainly do seek out the highest perch in their enclosure which in this case is nearly 5 feet off the ground, about 1.5 feet from the roof. Of course there are graduated perches placed so as to serve as a ladder. I have a feeling that if I could go higher on perch placement, it would be utilized. I think birds instictively seek higher roosts as a means of self preservation. Just a suggestion.
