Hello friends!
I am putting the final touches on the coop/run, and am trying to decide where to build the nesting boxes. I would love to put them in the run instead of the coop; are there any disadvantages I should be aware of?
I have an automatic door, so they can leave the coop at the crack of dawn. Thoughts?

If you are in an area with freezing temperatures, the eggs will lose heat faster in an exterior vs interior nest box. Is your run predator proof?

If your nests are in the run they need to be weatherproof. Not just cold but rain and maybe a strong wind. The wind can blow rain in on a slant so consider that.

It sounds like you may be in a hot climate. Will the nest become an over and overheat the hen or egg if the sunlight hits it. You can have the same problem inside a coop if the nest is on a sunny wall.

You may need to train them to use these nests but you sometimes have to train them to use nests inside the coop anyway.

As long as you are not worried about predators and your door opener works on time I can't think of any other concerns.
