Considering adding a couple ducks to my backyard flock but not 100% yet so am wanting some tips/ info/ advice-Whatever you got really. I was doing reading and was thinking the runners may be a cool addition. I know ducks can be kind of stinky and I had read that runners don't swim much but just doing regular baths. Does this mean that they are less messy than the more aquatic duck breeds? Also I will be adding to a small flock of 9 existing chickens (no roosters btw). Is there any reasons that runners and chickens don't mix well? I only want two ducks and space is not an issue. The have a large coop and run BUT I am in a residential area and this is a backyard flock so I thought runners since they don't fly but are there any reasons that runners would be bad for backyard? These are just some things I wanted to get strait before I make a decision so any and all help welcome!

Hello.....I never house Ducks and Chickens or free range either...Ducks are different....Messy little Birds..
Runners are fine but also have big Quacks and voice their opinions....Totally up to you as to what works ....

Although many people house ducks and chickens together It's best not to. They are different species after all. I would keep the ducks in a separate building and pen.

Ok thanks. I seriously doubt I get any if it involves separate housing. But just out of curiosity are runners less messy than other breeds that swim?
