Running power to the coop?

Thanks for the input! I'm HUGE on fire risks.... never had one...never want to... I'll have to talk to the hubby and see what he has in mind, but if we ran the extension cord, we'd definitely do the ONE, HEAVY DUTY, with the GFCI outlet....but I'm not sure I even like that idea.... I have a friend who's an electrician...maybe we can see what we can do about just digging a trench ourselves (yikes...that's gonna be a long trench!) and running a line underground...since if we don't, we'll wish later that we had! Sounds like a lot of you have power running to your coops....and I know, in the middle of winter, I'll wish I did....

Thanks for all of the input, I'll re-read your ideas and sit down with the hubby....I'm thankful to have other peoples' experiences to learn from!

I just ran power to my barn last weekend- even using aluminum instead of copper, running it 100 ft cost me $600. (I wired the barn, but had an electrician connect it to the house because getting electrocuted didn't sound like a fun way to spend the weekend.)
