Should runs be open to the elements by having chicken wire walls and roofs or should they be more like a shelter with solid roofs?

Mine was fully covered with a solid roof until the wind blew a good portion off the other day. It really depends on a lot of things. Predators, weather and affordability. We have a lot of hawks so it's covered for us. I plan on getting up on the roof and covering the opening with chicken wire or something soon so they're not exposed like they are right now. As we grow with chickens I'm sure one day we'll be expanding with the runs and it might be a bit more difficult to cover and we can't afford a lot of materials, sometimes a chance us chicken owners have to take. Also the size of your run is a factor. A smaller run is easier to cover.

My run is open except for the strings that run across the top to discourage flying predators. Chickens seem to be happy. In any event, they are out in the open when they come out to forage every day.
