Runt?

So all three hatched the same day. Very rare failed hatch for me. Put 24 in and only had 3 hatch. One is from my Easter egger and the other two are from my barred rocks. I’ve hatched many chicks from these guys and this is the first time I’ve run into this. Is it a runt? Genetic issue? It’s clearly much smaller than the others and it’s upper beak is way longer. What do y’all think?

I've never seen this before either. That's very strange. Since you had a bad hatch perhaps it was the humidity or the heat that caused this? Because when I hatch my silkies if the heat or humidity is off by a little bit they will hatch with spread legs. But THIS is weird.

It’s very weird. I’ve been hatching for two years from this hen/rooster combo and this is the first “weird” chick. It’s super healthy. Eats, drinks and acts like a normal chick would but it’s just so tiny and has a long upper beak. And also reminds me of Gru from the minions movies

A tip for the beak. Take some finger nail clippers and just trim it. It will be easer for it to eat.

I’ll definitely give that a shot. I’ve watched it eat and it seems to have no trouble.
