My broody hen hatched her clutch of eggs last weekend. I had given her 8 eggs.
The first 3 hatched last Friday, 3 more over the night or Saturday. and I thought, that was it, the last two were duds. I wanted to move family to a bigger area. But, mama hen wouldn't get up. So, I left her, thinking she knew something I didn't. I decided when i got home from work on the third dayI would move them.
I got home from work, mama got up, their they were.
one little yellow and a black/red.
I was thrilled.
until mama stepped on the yellow ones head. But, the yellow one is still okay. But. the last little hatch baby, is tiny. Being last to hatch, and on day 3 of hatching. would the size difference be that much in the span of 2-3 days?
She's a little more then half the size of the other babies. and she has her full set of wing feathers. so she's feathering quite fast.
and they feathers aren't wonky, they look fine. straight legs. eating, drinking, etc.
will she catch up?
or is she a runt?
and are runts survivability rates high?
