I am a frantic new Mom worried about one beautiful biddie who walks around inside the box with the heat lamp on, but both of her eyes are still closed. Is she a late bloomer to opening up her eyes like a premature baby? Will she be blind, or open her eyes at a later time? The other biddies just walk around and over her. She does move around and peeps and appears to me to be healthy otherwise. I haven't gotten my book on chicken emergencies, care, diseases ect. yet. Any information will be very much appreciated. I just love my new babies! I am a first time Mom to my new chicks. I was a child when I last had any baby chicks and I don't remember any problems happening with any of them. My new babies came in earlier than I expected and it was a surprise to have our chicks for Easter! Happy Easter everyone! One anxious chicken Mom in Milton, Florida.

I had a couple of my chics with goopy eyes, I soaked them with warm water, and got some Ointment at Wal-Mart was 2-3 dollars it's called Puralube Ointment, (Petrolatum Ophthalmic Ointment Sterile Ocular Lubricant) says for use as a lubricant to prevent further irritation or to relieve dryness of the eye...it helped them so much , i had to treat for about 5 days, one chics eye was REALLY bad and now its all better ....hope this helps

Dixie,
Did you use that ointment once or twice a day? I will be going to Walmart ASAP to get this ointment. Thank you for your speedy reply. I am so relieved now and will be even more relieved when both of her eyes open up and she can see her New Mom and her other sisters! Thank you so very much!

i did it twice a day, on the instructions it says to pull open lower lid and put inside , so i figured it would be ok to just smother it all around and in the eye to help keep it moist, i used a Q-tip ...like i said i did it for about 5 days and there fine now, i watched closely for awhile also when re introducing them back with others to make sure others didn't pick at them. I got antibotics for water in case it presisted but i did not have to use antibotic , for me antibotic is always a last resort i have a frizzle roo i got at a flea market he had like a stye in his eye, i used the ointment on him also but he needed antibotics as well to heal
