Sad day today and it was my fault.

I got home from work today to find 3 of my 2 week old muscovy ducklings drowned in the kiddie pool. I know better than to have had it filled but thought I had a bit more time before they were big enough to get in there.Stupid, stupid mistake. I honestly don't know how they were able to get up that high. No steps, bricks or anything on the outside.

On top of that, I then had to cull one of my chicks that was born yesterday because some of it's intestines were on the outside.

I just started working yesterday so I wasn't here and outside as often as normal to have potentially caught the ducklings.

As often as I talk about being safe with water and babies, I need to be more careful too. Lesson learned. :(

Sorry it happened.

Oh my goodness, i am sorry. Look we all make mistakes. Learn from it and move on, yes, easier said than done, i know. I just upgraded my waterer for my brood i refuse to give mum a bucket, not only would she splash water(hitting the heat lamp) but i worry the babies could drown, so paranoid but she goes in the barn loose and i check often to make sure nobody gets in that bucket! argh, the stress is too much sometimes.

I am also sorry about the chick, talk about adding insult to injury, i strongly dislike when things group together.
