All at the same time. She was my very first chicken.

The hawk found a source of food it will be back. Sometimes if it is a migratory bird, penning your chickens up for a week or so until it moves on can work. If it is a resident hawk, fenced in pens with a top are the only solution.

I feel bad they love to go out but I don't have alot of chickens so I think of them as pets not livestock, So I think I will keep them in for a while and keep a close eye on the sky. I hope it's not a resident hawk my chickens have been out here over a year and this has never happened.

OMG, I had no idea a hawk would have attacked a full grown chicken...she is a full size hen right?? how old? Either way..I am very sorry for your loss. Truly if I lived near you I would share some of my chickens with you, but if you have an incubator I'll send you some eggs.

Yes she is over a year old. This hawk was huge I am not kidding it had a 6 foot wing span. She was so close to making it back to the coop just 2 feet more she would have been safe.
