I just lost one of my Dominique chicks. I had fifteen, five hatched from our eggs under a broody and ten that I picked up at a nearby hatchery. One of the hatchery birds was weaker than the others. I pushed fluids and electrolytes for an afternoon then gave it to the broody with the other ones. Today I noticed one was lethargic, and picked it up. It had a pasty butt, and was very weak. I brought it in and cleaned off its butt. It was pooping good, and I started giving fluids, electrolytes etc. I also gave it egg yolk. It was drinking stuff okay, and then it curled up and went to sleep, then it just died. I feel very sad and wonder if I could have done anything differently. I know some chicks are just born weaker but it still sucks.
