For those who were rooting for Anne Frank, the chicken I attempted to rescue after she escaped extermination at the egg factory, has disappeared. She was living in my bushes, I would put up an enclosure around her at night to protect her. Last night I went out there to put it up, she wasn’t there but it was getting pretty dark so I just assumed she was perched up in her bush. She wasn’t there this morning. There’s no evidence of an attack. She made herself at home in that area, she had access to food and water. It’s possible she was chased away or left but my suspicion is she was taken by the same people she escaped from. The same people who own the egg factory also farm the land behind our house and they were spraying the crops yesterday right behind my house. I think they were trying to be considerate, probably saw her in my yard and thought we were probably not happy with a beat up chicken in our backyard next to our coop and figured they would remove it. I wasn’t home, I wish I was to tell them she was welcome to stay. I was hoping to give you a happy ending. This whole situation has been very eye opening for me and so many of you educated me on the farm factory cruelty, the things that happen right across the street from my house. It makes me sick to think of what happened, not only to my Anne Frank, but what is going on to the million birds in that factory that continue to suffer. Here and everywhere. The one positive thing that has come out of this is that Anne had a couple nice days of freedom. Also I will be much more particular when it comes to the products I buy.

Truthfully - I think a predator got her. She had little experience out in the wild.

Yes that’s possible but my guess is they took her. We don’t have very many predators. I rarely see wildlife out here, there isn't much of a water source close by. Stray cats and an occasional raccoon. It’s all open field farm land here. I couldn’t find her anywhere or see any feathers or remnants of an attack. I live in a close knit community and my husband knows the owner and the guy who was spraying behind our house quite well. He wouldn’t have had a problem coming on our property to retrieve the bird and was probably embarrassed about it (especially because they made it known that they were concerned about our unvaccinated birds and didn’t want us to free range). That’s my theory.

Update!!!!

That’s right! She was in my husbands shop since Friday night. I even looked in there for her but she must have been hiding (See my other post for her incredible story.) Scared the crap out of him when he saw her. No food or water either. Man, this girl is a fighter. I’m wondering if there is anyone near me who would like to take her. My chickens are real A-holes. Ive been doing the slow intro with my ducks for a few weeks now but they bully them, even my nice Buffingtons pull out their feathers. I’m just not sure she will fit in and I’ve been contemplating getting rid of my chickens and getting more ducks. Plus I’m leaving early tomorrow morning for a week long work trip. My kids are taking care of the birds while I’m gone. Anyone from southwest Michigan like a chicken with an incredible story? I live in Hamilton Mi.
