my friend who started the coop with me wanted to close up and collect the eggs the night before last. he's typically busy but had some friends over and wanted to show them the chickens.
apparently he forgot to close the window to outside and when i went to let them out in the morning they were already out. i knew it was bad news. 3 hens are gone, my rooster was missing and my bantams were decapitated.
i ended up finding my rooster, but he was hurt pretty bad. i had to put him out of his misery yesterday. it was really hard.
i raised my bantams from chicks and watched my rooster go from the bottom of the pecking order to the top, start mating, and try to crow.
crazy how attached you can get to these birds.
