Hi even though im new to this website, i have been raising chickens for 3 years and some messed up stuff has happened. hopefully after you read this youll be more carefull than I was.

1 Do not let your dog that has a history of killing small animals like birds close to your poultry

So for a birthday present my cousins gave me 2 Silver duck wings. Amelia and Claws.
they loved each other, and i loved them
one day i came home and Claws is dead, we didnt know what happened then, but now i think Oreo killed him. Amelia was devestated, and she started to become happy
Then Hannah killed Amelia. My Mom had tried to keep hannah in a pin but she got out

I’m sooo sorry!! Thank you for sharing that way we can keep our bird safe.

2. some silkie chicks die naturally

so i got 3 chicks and i put them with the others(Ester, Easter, and Rona, only Ester is still alive) things were great intill a few weeks a silkie chick wasnt acting right

she wasnt drinking and her breath was ragged .We tried to save her but she died in my arms
Poor Ester didnt know what happened to her and wanted her back.

3 Dont put new chicks in the coop the night you get the chicks. even with the heat lamp you shouldnt risk it

So this is basically Esters Backstory
one day, we got 6 chicks and decided to put them in the adult coop for the night.
We usually keep them inside for the first too weeks
in the morning,3 dead, 3 dying. we put them in an old birdcage in the coop, not close to the lamp. I rushed them inside, but Rona was clearly affected by the cold. week later Rona died
by that time we got 3 more chicks, Eclipse, Silkie and Rona2. when silkie died Easter, Ester
Rona2 and Eclipse were the only ones alive. Then, Easter acted strange. she had Pasty Butt.
Ester would cry for her to come back while treating her.

Ester believed she would make it. So did I. When i found her dead, i picked her up to bury her,
and Ester was squawking at me like"Hey! Hey! Dont take her away!"

the most importiant rule
4. always make sure the chicken door is closed

Ignoring this rule can lead to disater and devestion.
So back in late 2019, i had 10 chickens, Brooklyn, Strawberry, Pumpkin Queen, Floppy, Iris, Fuzzy, Myrtle, Cherry, and Cinder. Cinder was my favorite one, a broody hen and a sweet heart. when we were at a friends, I asked Mom if she had put up the chickens. She said yes.
But she was drunk and, well, didnt. in the Morning I went out through the front door and saw Floppy and Strawberry. when i got inside the chicken yard, i saw Pumpkin's headless body.
I dont want to think that cinder died, too. I like to think shes out in the forest with her chicks, and having a fun time. keep this in mind when you are putting up the chickens
