We are a middle class family I guess you'd say... My DH is disabled due to lightning strike in 1997. By 1999 he was diagnosed as disabled. Luckily he was smart enough to purchased LTD insurance when he was working, which he will now recieve til he is 65. First it took almost 5 yrs for him to be accepted for SSDI... LTD ins used their attnys. We try to do the best we can to keep everything caught up as far as home, cars, student in college, etc... But we are still pinched and as anyone that is middle class is aware...We have no help from the gov. Make too much for aid and too little to be able to purchase health ins for our children or myself(hubby don't need it he's on Medicare).
So anyway, I go to work for 5-6 yrs and I loved being out socializing and we had ins but in those 5-6 yrs(didn't work before that cause was a housewife but we lived in a state that had no st tax at the time) we have had to pay no less than and many times way more than 3000.00 in st and fed taxes... No work last year due to having to quit to help with family and guess what! For the first time in 20 yrs(hubby used to make way good money) we have no fed tax to pay and actually got a 619.00 child tax credit back... And our state tax was half as much as when I was working.
It's like they punish you for going to work!

If no one paid taxes your husband would not have SSI or medicare.
someone has to pay for those things. At least you are now able to get back some of what you paid in over the years.
With the rate that SS and medicare is currently being paid out I most likely will never see what I have paid in when i get to retirement age.

I'm sorry but it's hard to say one thing and it sound like what you are trying to saywhen it is typed... I have no problem paying taxes if we could afford to(I totally believe they are needed), and we used to pay 6-7 thousand per yr beyond what was taken from hubbys check when he was working(like I said he used to make good money) but I had the most I can plus extra 50.00(200.00 per month) per check in taxes taken out and we still got punished because my working and making a measley 6000.00 per yr put us in another tax bracket. I'm not complaining about having to pay taxes... My complaint is that I can't work(and I want to) because when I do what I am making is going straight back to the gov., every penny... Hubbys LTD refuses to deduct for taxes and SSDI doesn't deduct so it is left up to us to pay at the end of the year...Well that would be fine if we could afford to save but we can't so now I am jobless....Not that being a housewife is bad, I love spending time with my family, but I also crave getting to go to a job.

"You the wealthy must pay your fair share." Unfortunately, the government thinks we are all wealthy.
