hi all,
just wondering about eating the eggs, our girls are on 1/2 med. starter and 1/2 layer pellets [ we are in the process of switching]. They are 20 wks. and just got our first egg.

thanks, Buffy

You didn't say whether your Starter/Grower is medicated or not. I use medicated Starter/Grower I feed it to the birds until I get my first egg then I switch over to Layer. If I have any Starter/Grower or Grower left over when I get my first egg, I mix in the leftover feed with the Layer feed. I have never had any problems. The amprollium in the Starter helps in the chicks development in their resistance to cocci. It is sulfa based. There is only a problem eating the eggs layed by the birds that have had the medicated feed when they start to lay if you have any alergies to Sulfa.

I will eat it, I ate the eggs when my hens were on worming med and I am still alive

Hmm my hens get into the medicated chick starter and I am very allergic to sulfa and don't have any problems. If I had -had an reaction I would have never connected the two. It's something to keep in mind.

Last time I reacted with severe hives - those are no fun...

I didn't eat my first eggs while the girls were still on medicated starter/grower, but that's only because I have severe allergies to alot of medications.
My DH ate them with no problem.

thanks all, the starter is medicated and we have no known allergies so I think we will just eat it!

Eating eggs from hens that are on wormer might be a good idea. It just might keep me from getting worms.

Ummm, no, sorry, amprolium is not sulfa based. I eat eggs laid by hens who are eating amprolium medicated feed all the time.
