safeguard medicated dewormer

how to use safeguard medicated dewormer with fenbendazole 0.5% i found roundworms in droppings a wk ago hens are all adults

0.5% would be SafeGaurd Pellets correct?

Just my personal preference, but I prefer to give most medications orally, giving via feed/water there is a good chance some of the hens may pick only the good pellets out and eat them, they may just get discarded, or end up on the bottom. If you can get Liquid SafeGaurd Goat Dewormer you can give that orally, at 0.23ml for five days.

The dose in that article is for Fenbendazole 10% .

she lists the dosage for 10% as well. I weighed out the feed and put the water and meds in a spray bottle and stirred and sprayed.

The no egg withdrawal medicated mash method uses a dose of 0.45 mg of Fenbendazole per lb of bodyweight, fed for five days in a row.

The normal oral dose method uses 22.7 mg of Fenbendazole per lb of bodyweight, fed for five days in a row. People usually use a 14 day egg withdrawal after the last dose.

The product you mention has 2,270 mg of Fenbendazole per lb (453.5924 g) of feed. That equals 5 mg/g of Fenbendazole.

For a no egg withdrawal mash, five 4 lb chickens could only have 9 mg of Fenbendazole per day (5 x 4 lbs x 0.45 mg). That means the five chickens can only eat 1.8 g of the feed per day. Any more than that, then it isn't approved to be "0 day egg withdrawal" so that product isn't practical at all for the no egg withdrawal method.

For a normal dose, five 4 lb chickens have to eat 454 mg of Fenbendazole per day (5 x 4 lbs x 22.7 mg). That means the five chickens should eat 90.8 g (3.2 oz weight) of the feed per day for 5 days in a row. Feeding that product straight is too much medicine and I don't think it's really practical to cut it with regular feed to dilute it since the chickens will pick out what they want and others will eat more and some eat less.

It would be much easier to just buy the 10% horse paste or 10% liquid goat wormer and dose orally.
