It was a bittersweet day. I am glad to not have to fight with the one rooster anymore, but I raised them from chicks so I had named them and got too attached. A very nice older man contacted me from Craig's list and came to pick them up. I didn't ask what he planned to do with them, but he did mention some of his chickens he has at home, so I'm hoping they will just be added to the flock. Worst case they will be supper, but that's what they would have ended up at my house eventually if I had not found someone to take them. Husband says I need to stop looking at them as pets and as livestock. Not sure I can do that! lol! My little girls are kinda wandering around like "where did they go?" Hopefully they will start following around the older hens and big rooster. I'm thinking 2 of them should be laying soon!!

Just went through the same thing. I had to get rid of 3 roosters. I have to say that everyone at my house is much happier now. The remaining rooster is nicer, the older hens aren't running in terror from too many roosters, and the kids feel much safer going outside. I KNOW my guys went to the chopping block, but, as you said, that is what would've happened if I had kept them here. I just saved myself the mess and trouble. Butchering and animal is not really high on my list of things I actually WANT to do.

I am the same way. All of my chickens are pets, and even my dad know that eating them is not an option.
