this might be a really stupid question but should their be any worry about duck eggs? you always hear about salmonella with poultry...how do you watch for something like that?

There is nothing to watch for. Use good handwashing and kitchen hygiene with poultry, and cook eggs and meat til done, as cooking kills the germ.

The chances of that are like 1 in 20,000 eggs. I think most of it is caused by the farms washing the protective coating off of the egg before it heads for the store.

I had a woman I worked with a few years ago who gave me some fresh chicken eggs and she said that she doesn't wash them until she goes to use them I never asked why but I guess that's why!

Do I need to wash my duck eggs as soon as I collect them? I read that the shells are more pourous and their mess can cause salmonella. Is this true?

Their are different strains of Salmonila ....A few years back I had to test my Birds after the hatchery had an outbreak...They sent me a kit to test my coop...My Birds were negative for it...
Wash hands and fully cook your eggs...
