My household decided to raise backyard chickens about seven months ago. Until recently our little flock (four hens and an accidental rooster whose future is still being discussed) was doing well and giving us about four lovely eggs per day.

I've been referring to BYC for tips and information ever since we got our chicks, but unfortunately I'm only just now registering because I will need to make use of your experience and knowledge in the "predators and pests" forum. We are down to one hen and the rooster.

I have to go examine the scene of the crime again and will be making a post in "predators and pests" later today. Sorry for the dreary introduction, but I will very much appreciate any help in indentifying our chicken-slayer!

to BYC!

I hope you figure out this predator problem. They are pests aren't they? I have been using solar lighting around my aviaries and coops for many years. The place is lit up like an airport runway. I think you can see it from space! LOL But I have never had any issues with night time critters, which I think is due to all the lights.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Hello :frow Welcome To BYC and Happy Holidays! Sorry about your flock, hope you are able to figure out what the predator is.

Thanks for the warm welcome, all!

TwoCrows, I had to laugh at your description of your well-lit coops. :D
