You have come to the right place to learn about chickens. Lots of seasoned experts and newbies alike. Welcome.

My friends tried to warn me that chickens were addictive but

I had nooo idea. I stayed up til 2 am just researching coops. Now I'm pretty sure that it's official: I'm obsessing. No turning back now.

I measured the area for the run and it is roughly 9 x11 feet. From what I understand this means I can have up to 9 standards or 7-8 standards and two bantams?

@hennie- thanks for recognizing it!!!

I got my first chicks on Friday!!!!! 3 Silver-Laced Wyandottes. I also pre-paid for 6 EE and they should come in to the Feed store tomorrow. Now all I have to do is find a few bantams for my son. He requested 2 for pets- we'll raise them in the living room and handle them often (watching cartoons, probably!) so they will (hopefully) be pretty tame. I think we've narrowed it down to cochins or d'uccles for temperament.
