Same layer?

Hi everyone! New to this community, but it has been my go to site since I got my chicks. My babies are now about 4mnths. We got our 1st egg Sat. I'm trying to figure out which chicken is laying. So far it's laying every other day. 1st egg was cream colored, very soft shell, 2nd was a light brown with speckles, and today I found another a bit darker than the 2nd but without speckles. I have a Dominique, Rhode Island Red, Cuckoo Maran, and 2 Ameraucanas.

It's hard to tell on soft shelled eggs as they don't show what their shell color actually is...so who knows on that.

Dominique and RIR will lay medium brown eggs, typically not speckled.

Cuckoo Marans will lay dark brown eggs, and you can see speckles in that line of dark on lighter color. I should think your speckles and darker brown eggs are from those birds, and sometimes a hen will coat differently, but usually it is either solid or speckled her whole life.

Ameraucanas, if true Ameraucanas. lay blue eggs. If you got them from a feed store, they are Easter Eggers and typically lay green eggs but can lay any color....blue, white, green, brown, even speckled. The same hen, however, will only lay the same color though.

At 1st I thought it was different hens laying. I'm not too sure now. They are both light brown. I'll upload a pic. I'm patiently waiting for those blue eggs.

There is one to tell who is laying and who is not, can be handy as your pullets come into lay, and good practice in examining your birds to learn seeing what's 'normal'.

Vent Appearance:
Dry, tight, and smaller - usually not laying.
Moist, wide, and larger - usually laying.

Pelvic Points, feel for the 2 bony points(pelvic bones F-F) on either side of vent:
Less than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means not laying.
More than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means laying.
(Spacing is relative with chickens size and humans finger size.)
