Sand bath help?

so for some reason my button quail who is now 5 weeks and 4 days old today will do the bath shakes and fluufs and rolls ontop of toilet paper squares but when i introduce dirt all they want to do is eat it.... any advice or help would be nice they have not figured out how to bath on anything but toilet paper. I even tried dropping some dirt on them like i saw on a vid gently punches of it on there back and they just ignore it and eat dirt ..... what do i do they are raised alone cuz they hatched alone . Advice and experience would greatly help ty

Is it natural for them to 'just figure it out' as they age?
I know nothing about quail tho- maybe it's different from chickens?

A couple of my hens were dumb as dirt when they were that age (they still kind of are actually-shh! Don't tell them I said that) but they eventually got the hang of it.. They still eat dirt (helps digestion) but they bathe in it all the time now...
