Sand -- Help?!

Hiyo --

I'm thinking about putting sand in my coop, but I don't know what kind.
Probably gonna get it from home depot so what kinds do they have that work there?

Is this a good kind?


And also how do you manage it to keep it clean and odorless? Right now I use hay and it doesn't smell too bad.

I used construction sand. It'd more course then play sand. I mixed it with PDZ and DE. Also added some very dry leaves for them to tussle thru. I use a a rake we put mesh to make a big kitty scooper with.

Play sand is usually too fine, and will not drain well over time. As Messipaw said, you want as course sand as you can get. My local quarry sells course washed sand, and that is what I use.

If you can keep the sand dry, it is easy to clean with a rake and kitty litter shovel or a horse manure rake. I save up the manure for use on my gardens.
