We live on the West "coast" of Michigan, and pretty much all in sand. The only reason the run will have a dirt floor is because horses used to live there.

Any reason I can't use the sand from outside in the coop?

We put our coop in our round pin.....full of sand. Great choise!!!! drains well and the chickens love the sand!!!

I had an abundance of washed quarry sand left over and put a deep layer in the run and under the coop. The girls love it! They take sand baths and find lots of cool bugs. I bring it pine needles and grass cilppings too to provide more scratching opportunities and of course, more bugs.

This is more beach-type sand, the kind lots of dune grass grows in, (and don't I know it!)
