How can I scale down the amount of electroyltes for a tiny flock? i only have a few chicks so i don't want to make a gallons worth from 1 packet. also, after the mix is prepared how long can i use it for? does it store at room temperature?

Those packets are about a teaspoon of product- 0.17 oz. It's a heck of a retail mark up.

If a person uses electrolytes the economical way to purchase is by the 8 oz pack for less than $6. It lasts forever, and you can add electrolytes to your water bottle on hot days for pennies. Great for animals of all types including humans.

Perhaps some vitamins degrade over time but I mix a gal. at a time. Use little after first hatch and the rest given to the flock on the hottest days later that summer. For personal use just add corn syrup and food coloring to make your own Gatorade. Or vitamin water or any other overpriced bottled crap at the quick stop. I've had the same bag for six years.

What's the weight of a packet?

.25oz
After some digging somewhere said one packet is 1 teaspoon, so 1/4 teaspoon for a quart. I will just measure out an entire packet to be sure!
