WE finished our coop ...it was ready to paint....I was determined I wanted my coop to look like a vintage barn building ....like back in the early 1800's ??
...The color was a very important issue with me and I spent months searching for just the ''right'' shade of red.

I personally do NOT even like the color red....wont wear it or allow any red item in my house what-so- ever !!! ... I wont even let my hubby wear red!!
But ..for some reason..the barn just needed to be red....But NOT that ugly red you see in the crayola box...It had to be that special , weathered lookin barn red you see while driving around out in the country.... on the EAST coast ??
Anyway...I knew when I saw the perfect color, I would JUST KNOW it and that would settle it.
Then.... one of the girls here on BYC, told me I ought to go to LOWES and check out their ''Historic Preservation '' colors they carried.
I was SO happy to learn that Lowes might have the color I wanted , so , I roused my hubby out of his easy chair and we went to LOWES , that very evening to look!!!
WEll...MY hubby insisted we needed to just get the basic BARN RED brand , barn paint that Lowes carried ... He said, it was durable, oil based, cheaper and ,he said the color was just fine....he did not understand my insistance on that ''certain '' red.
Anyway..when I priced the expensive VALPAR, National Trust for HIstoric Preservation La Fonda Antique Red that I had my heart on .......that paint was WAY more then we could afford.... !! And it was not gonna be oil based exterior that we agreed on.
I was broken hearted

...BUT, agreed with my frugal hubby that the Plain Old BARN RED would have to do...
WEll...as I was stirrin it up yesterday I dabbed a little bit of it on my fancy paint sample chip....and IT MATCHED perfectly!!

So , essentially , I got the EXACT color I wanted after all !!! But at way less $$$ !!!!
WOW!!

Deals like that dont happen to me very often ....My hubby was happy and now I have the classic RED barn that I always wanted !!!!! YAY!!

Very cool!

Can't Lowe's colormatch whatever color you want mixed into whatever base paint you want? I thought it was the base paint that determined the price...but I'm really not that knowledgeable about these things so it's totally cool if I'm mistaken.

That's great!

Also sometimes I find good colors of paint in their discount section, and at my local recycle place for free! Probably wouldn't have found the perfect barn red shade there, but if someone was open to colors, those are good places to look

Ok, first off, that 'ugly red crayola red' is one of my favorite colors, next to crayola orange.. in fact, I adore ALL crayola colors... that said, I painted the interior of my house mostly with 'mistints' from the hardware stores in the area... my upstairs bathroom is a crazy coral orange.. so bright that it makes you see blue everywhere when you leave... cheap paint is so great, much better than paying too much.

Glad you found the color you wanted. Tractor Supply carries a barn red and a nice natural lookng green that they call fence and barn paint. I painted all my coops and outbuildings green to blend in to the surroundings and also because green is my favorite color.

The traditional barn red is a great look and I see why you went with it. Thanks for sharing!
