Saw with my own eyes!!! (Pics)

I was gathering eggs this morning and saw one of my NH Reds assuming the position so I decided to wait...
Next thing I noticed was she was laying the egg totally shelless. I thought oh man the shell must be stuck in the vent.
I took her out of the next box and checked the vent. Nothing...nada...hmmmmmm

It's a little dark but you can see the egg has no shell but it looked like there was a chewed up piece of gum in it.

So I picked it up and it was a rubbery nerdle.

Of course I had to disect it.

I think it was another egg...
What do you think?

Definitely looks like a little mini egg lump, how bizarre!

I thought it was weird too. They never stop amazing me.

It happens, it is a meat spot. More common in some birds than others, many will not hatch eggs from hens that produce many meat spots because it can be genetic. You'll also find material like that if you disect an internal layer.

I have nooo idea... other than they sometimes lay funny when they first start.

Thanks for the pics silkiechicken. This fall I had a chicken I thought was egg bound.
She didn't make it and I disected her and this is what I found.
I think it is what you just called an "internal layer"

Here are some pics I took then. What do you think? Should I worry about this chicken today???

I wouldn't worry too much about her, it happens even to the best of birds. Many high production breeds end up having internal laying issues some time in life.

Mine was like that.The one I recently loss,Caluah,was an internal layer.

It happens even to the best of us.
