Our saxony duck that is about 3 years old has very suddenly got a balance problem. She literally got this in a matter of hours which i thought was weird. Last night I noticed she couldnt bend over to eat without falling over. I put her in a shed of her own and today she can't walk without falling over, can i help her?

I just had a better look at her, her nose is running and she's trembling a bit and her wings are drooping slightly. her poop is also ruunny and green and white

Could she have eaten anything poisonous? do the free range? sounds like maybe botulism. you can give her molasses and water, epsom salt water or charcoal capsules mixed into her water this is from the Emergency and Disease thread but gives you dosages
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/582306/how-to-treat-botulism she could also have some kind of illness but only a vet can tell you for sure.

Yes she could have actually they are completely free range and there are laods of different plants about. would it be easy to identify which plant would be to blame? I had a drake die of similar symptoms earlier this year. I will try treat her for botulism and see what happens

Not unless you had pics and list of poisonous plants in your area that are harmful to ducks. Maybe you could google it and get some info. I hope she recovers and sorry for the loss of your drake. Please let us know how she does,.

I just gave her a 5ml dose of castor oil to start with, dont know how much of it she actually swallowed though. A lot of her feathers were falling out too it is moult time mind you. Shes not eating or drinking and we had a black rock hen die 2 nights ago, just started to hunch up and then one night she was just hunched over in the hen house with her eyes closed not moving and was dead the next day. No other symptoms except when we got her and 2 others they both had bare bottoms and chests which were red but no lice and the feathers never grew back in!

Feathers falling out is another symptom of botulism. but also molting so hard to say on that one. you don't have any neighbors who have been complaining about noise do you? Sorry about this sure wish I knew what it was so you could know just how to treat. How is everyone else acting? I see you have Embden geese also are they, acting normal?

The neighbours havnt said anything, they're used to the normal racket of the geese and turkeys! what sort of noise are you looking out for..?
With the black rocks, they are a relatives hens we are looking after and they had lost they're feathers before they came to us, they just hvat grown back in! As for the others, I will just go out and take a look at them as i feed them in a minute

update; I had a good look at them all and they're all acting normal, i took a couple of videos of the saxony showing the way her balance is off if you think they might help?

Still no improvement! It says botulism will kill the bird in 48hrs or it will recover so far there doesnt seem to have been improvement or it getting worse. She looks awful right now since she hasnt been able to wash herself, i let her out today in an isolated pen so she could but she hasnt taken an interest. Her only symptoms now are her balance, trembling and every now and then her wings droop and she seems to always be trying to keep them folded against her.
