2 of my chickens have scaley leg mites and all 5 of my chickens have been treated with gasoline soaks and A & D ointment. I never want to do that again. 1 hen is stressed and pulling her feathers out. Which is another issue. For my pen enclosure I was using dry leaves and straw and working on deep bedding for winter. I’m located in the middle of Indiana. Now I’m so freaked out about mites I’m afraid of deep bedding and using my fall bagged leaves, straw and just about anything else. Is coarse sand a good idea? Also I should be receiving electrol psp tomorrow to decontaminate the coop and roosting posts in the pen. And should the bedding I remove be burned versus the compost pile? Thank you
