Scaley leg mites... natural cures, essential oil?

Yes, my birds are both feather footed. I checked her feet because she was acting a little footsore and was not scratching with her usual vigour. Seems that some of the scales are more raised than usual... I would rather treat and find it wasn't necessary than leave it and find it gets worse. I will try to get a few pics later and see what you all think. I have also noticed that Amber's nails have gotten rather long so will be trimming them too. I have recently put our birds into a shed that used to be used as a coop. We tried to clean it out well and now I am wondering if they may have picked them up in there

I have had chickens for about 6 years but have never had to deal with this ... want to get it sorted out before we move so we are not dragging some nasty critters with us!

Anything oily or greasy will do it. Olive oil or any veggie oil is fine. Pam is convenient. The advantage of Vaseline is the texture; presumably it coats better.
Although it is somewhat messy to apply, vaseline coats better and it stays on the legs and feet better.

I would recommend mineral oil (baby oil without all the additives 😊), which should be less unhealthy than Vaseline, and if that doesn’t knock it out after a week or two, try vaseline or VetRX. One of my oldest hens has this problem and it won’t go completely away, but I treat her and she gets much better and then some months later, usually after some messy weather, it seems they make a resurgence. Perhaps if I combined some topical ivermectin it would wipe them out or does anyone know if oral would be better? I’ve learned to trust ivermectin - it has been in use so very long and no one wants to tell you this, but it works by increasing transportation of extra zinc into the cells - which is exactly why it works against parasites AND against viruses. Ivermectin is OTC in most countries around the world, but for some reason not the U.S.
