My chick is 3 months old and I found her like this in the coop. I have rinsed it with saline water, sprayed some blu cote on the wound, separated her from the flock and put her in a dark room but now I need to know which of these ointments would be the best. I also can’t figure out how she got the wound either. She is curling and is able to stand on her own and the wound is a little bit deeper than skin deep

Sorry about your chick. She doesn’t have brain tissue exposed does she?

I would use the muka honey one. Keep the wound moist at all times with the ointment. If you have it, something such as neosporin without pain reliever would be good in place of that ointment, also. Try not to use blu kote anymore, it’s a good antiseptic, but it can be drying and make it a bit tough to judge tissue changes and watch for infection on a wound of that nature. Rinse twice a day with an antiseptic such as Vetericyn or hibaclense if you’ve got any, if not sterile saline will work. Always follow with the ointment and keep globbing it on all day if the wound dries out at all. Don’t return her to the flock until she is very close to fully healed, it may take weeks. She will need to be inside away from flies this time of year as you treat her.

Treat her for shock right away also after tending her wounds if you haven’t already: she’ll need electrolytes with some sugar mixed in. Something such as Gatorade will also work. You may have to use a dropper to drop some on her beak to get her to take it or gently dip her beak in. After that place her somewhere warm, dark and quiet to recover.
